Chris Rygh

Chris graduated in 1983 from Brandon Valley High School. 

Chris was a five year letter winner in the sport of Wrestling.  As an eighth grader, he won the first of his three Big Eight Conference Championships in an overtime match.  He was a two-time Sectional Champion.  In 1983, Chris was the South Dakota Freestyle Champion.  He left his mark on the State Meet several times.  He placed sixth at 112 pounds as a freshman in 1980 then returned to the medal stand at 132 pounds finishing fourth as a junior.  His senior year was special as Chris finished the season with a perfect 29-0 record.  On the way, he won Big Eight, Section II and State A titles.  Chris' 106 wins is currently eleventh on the Brandon Valley All-time career wins list and was the school record at the time of his graduation.  He also held the fastest pin record at under twelve seconds.

Chris was a running back on the football team and earned two letters.  As a senior, he was an Honorable Mention All Conference selection.

Chris went on to wrestle at North Dakota State University for two years and then South Dakota State for one year.

He has called Alaska home since 1992 and has used his athleticism to learn and love the sports of Ski Mountaineering and Surfing.  He has also invested in youth by starting a Freestyle Wrestling Program and coaching Nordic Ski Jumping for the Alaska Nordic Ski Jumping Association.
